Navarasa: Exploring the Embodiment and Perception of Emotions
How are emotions embodied? What mechanisms govern the manifestation of emotions in
our bodies? How do we perceive facial expressions and body movements? Natyashastra, an
ancient Indian treatise on dance and music, defines ‘Navarasa’ as nine emotions. It is a
valuable framework for comprehending embodied emotions. In this workshop, Gayatri
Nerpagar elucidates how Navarasa fits into present cognitive science theories and her
research at the intersection of the two.
